Brisbane City Life

Brisbane CBD is great cos it's so compact, shiny and new, and you feel like you've got it covered after wandering the streets for a coupla hours. All the streets running east-west are named after queens and all the streets intersecting them going north-south to the river are named after kings. So, it's really easy to navigate and find your way around. If you don't believe me, check out the map which also happens to have a big arrow showing where I work...
The people are astonishingly friendly - you can walk into a lift and a stranger will smile and say "hey, howz it going?", and if you need help or service of ANY kind, you're greeted with a friendly welcome - quite a shock to the system and a total change from London where you automatically expect rudeness. It catches me off guard sometimes because I'll be making a cup of tea at work and a stranger strikes up a friendly conversation out of nowhere! And the men are so gentlemanly - at any possible place which contains a door (train, lift, building...) they stand back and wave you through politely.
And this place is shoppers' paradise! Everywhere you go there are shopping centres. There's no excuse for not having a bulging wardrobe!!
